The Government of India announced that Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit (PVSM, AVSM, VM, VSM) will take over as the Chief of the Air Staff in the rank of Air Chief Marshal from the afternoon of October 31, 2026. His tenure will run until December 31, 2028. Dixit, commissioned into the fighter stream in 1986, has logged over 3,500 flying hours across aircraft including the Mirage-2000, MiG variants, Jaguar, Tejas, Hawk, and IL-78. He is an Experimental Test Pilot and Qualified Flying Instructor, with extensive operational experience in missions such as Operation Safed Sagar, Operation Rakshak, Cope India, and Operation Sindoor. He has also played a key role in advancing indigenous aviation projects, particularly the LCA Tejas programme
