Published: 17 September 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

Amazon has launched Alexa+ in India, a generative AI-powered version of its voice assistant that supports English, Hindi and Hinglish. Unlike the older Alexa, Alexa+ can hold natural conversations, remember context, handle follow-up questions without repeating the wake word, and perform multi-step tasks such as controlling smart-home devices, shopping, meal planning, and tracking deliveries. It is available under Early Access on eligible Echo devices, Fire TV, and the Alexa app.

Key Takeaways

Alexa+ marks Amazon's biggest AI upgrade to its assistant in India, tailored for multilingual households and local speech patterns. Amazon says the assistant can understand Indian expressions, Hinglish, and family relationships, while integrating with services such as Swiggy, MakeMyTrip, EazyDiner, and District by Zomato. It will remain free for Prime members after the Early Access period.
