Anthropic Pushes AI Deeper Into Drug Discovery With Allergy Research

Published: 28 October 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

Anthropic says Claude, working with biotech company Divergence Labs, generated around 35,000 antibody designs in about a month for a potential food-allergy treatment targeting IgE, a molecule involved in allergic reactions. Early laboratory work identified three designs that could bind IgE and 20 that could dislodge it from immune cells. Three of those 20 appeared to outperform the standard medication used as a comparison, according to Anthropic. The next goal is to combine the desired functions into a potential drug.

Key Takeaways

The results suggest AI could dramatically expand the number of drug candidates researchers can explore, but these are early-stage research findings, not an approved food-allergy treatment. Anthropic says it is working with six drug-development organisations to explore Claude across different stages of medicine development.
