Ayush Sector Powers 1.76 Million Jobs, Women Lead Workforce

The Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) released the Ayush Service Sector Report during Ayurveda Day. The study found that the Ayush services sector supports 1.76 million livelihoods in India, with women comprising 43% of the workforce. Female participation exceeds 50% in hospitals, day-care centres, educational institutes, and wellness establishments, with spas and wellness resorts reporting over 60% women employees. Standalone clinics and day-care centres together generate more than 70% of sector revenue, while Ayurveda contributes nearly USD 17.73 billion (48% of total revenue). The sector also earned USD 1.77 billion from medical value travel in FY2024–25, with international patients contributing up to 25% of hospital revenues. Projections suggest the sector could grow from USD 36.92 billion in FY2024–25 to USD 216–318 billion by 2047, creating significant opportunities in healthcare, wellness, education, and allied services.
