BJP Holds Nandigram Fort with Massive Win
What Happened
BJP candidate Hasi Rani Rath won the Nandigram bypoll, defeating Congress candidate Milan Pradhan by a margin of over 1.22 lakh votes. The seat fell vacant after Suvendu Adhikari, who had won both Nandigram and Bhabanipur in the 2026 Assembly election, chose to retain Bhabanipur.
Key Takeaways
Nandigram is one of West Bengal's most politically significant constituencies. It was the site where Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in 2021, and the bypoll was widely seen as an early test of the BJP government's popularity after its victory in the 2026 state elections.
