Published: 6 October 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out the maiden live jump of its indigenous Advanced High-Altitude Parachute (AHAP) at the Nyoma drop zone in Ladakh. The jump was executed from 16,000 feet, with the parachute deployed at 15,500 feet and the paratrooper landing safely at around 13,700 feet. The system is designed for mass deployment of troops in high-altitude terrain and can operate at altitudes of up to 18,000 feet.

Key Takeaways

The successful test validates a critical indigenous capability for airborne operations in mountainous border regions, strengthening India's self-reliance in defence technology and enhancing troop deployment options in extreme high-altitude conditions.
