Durga Puja rush turns chaotic: Stampede at Kolkata pandal leaves several injured
What Happened
A stampede-like situation broke out at the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata on Saturday evening amid heavy crowds and rainfall. Police said people waiting outside rushed forward when it began raining, causing some to fall. The injured were shifted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital.
Key Takeaways
Early reports differ on casualties. WION reported at least 25 injured, while a later Times Now report put the number at 35 injured, including five critical. Reports of deaths are not yet consistent. Hindustan Times, citing the latest available information, said there was no official confirmation of fatalities, so it would be safer not to put a death toll in the headline at this stage.
