FASTag 2.0 Could Be a Game-Changer for Highways
What Happened
India is moving from toll plazas to a drive-through tolling system where vehicles won't need to stop at all. Using FASTag and camera-based vehicle recognition, the government expects faster travel, lower costs, and up to ₹10,000 crore in additional annual toll revenue. Nitin Gadkari said FASTag has made toll collection seamless, efficient and transparent since becoming mandatory in 2021.
Key Takeaways
India is moving towards fully digital, barrier-free toll collection. Besides reducing waiting times and fuel consumption, the new technology could significantly boost toll revenues and lower operating costs.
