From Assembly to Complete Manufacturing: AK-203 Goes 100% Indian

Published: 24 August 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

India has successfully test-fired the first 100% indigenised AK-203 "Sher" assault rifle at the Korwa facility in Amethi. According to Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL), every component and input material used in the rifle has been sourced from Indian industry, making it a genuinely end-to-end Indian-made weapon. The rifle is now set for Indian Army trials in September 2026.

Key Takeaways

The milestone is about much more than a rifle. It signals India's growing ability to design, manufacture and sustain critical defence equipment domestically, reducing import dependence while strengthening military readiness and defence exports potential.
