What Happened

A paper presented at the India Policy Forum 2026 estimates that India is missing out on nearly $110 billion in annual processed-food exports. Despite having around 14% of the world's arable land and being one of the largest agricultural producers, India accounts for less than 2% of global processed-food exports, highlighting a massive untapped opportunity. The report identifies infrastructure gaps, supply chain inefficiencies, and regulatory bottlenecks as major hurdles.
