1939 (Start of World War II): Nazi Germany invaded Poland using blitzkrieg tactics, prompting the United Kingdom and France to declare war and officially spark World War II in Europe. 1969 (Libyan Coup): A 27-year-old army captain named Muammar al-Qaddafi led a successful military coup that overthrew King Idris I, establishing the Libyan Arab Republic. 1775 – King George III Rejects the Olive Branch Petition. The British king refused a final peace appeal from the American colonies, pushing the American Revolutionary War closer to full-scale conflict. 1798 – Britain Signs Treaty with the Nizam of Hyderabad. The British East India Company signed a treaty with the Nizam of Hyderabad, strengthening British influence in India through the subsidiary alliance system. 1923 – Great Kantō Earthquake. One of Japan's deadliest natural disasters struck the Tokyo-Yokohama region, killing over 100,000 people and devastating the country's political and economic heartland.
