What Happened

1869: Birth of Mahatma Gandhi: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar, Gujarat. He became the foremost leader of India's independence movement using Satyagraha (non-violent resistance). His birth anniversary is commemorated as Gandhi Jayanti (a national holiday in India) and globally by the United Nations as the International Day of Non-Violence. 1904: Birth of Lal Bahadur Shastri: India’s second Prime Minister was born on this day. He famously guided the nation through the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War and gave the iconic slogan ""Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan"" (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer). 1187: Siege of Jerusalem Ends: The Muslim military leader Saladin captured Jerusalem from the Christian Crusaders after 88 years of Crusader rule, drastically shifting control of the Holy Land. 1958: Guinea Gains Independence: Guinea officially declared its independence from French colonial rule, becoming the first French African colony to reject the new French Community setup. 1979: Operation Flood Phase II launched. The White Revolution expanded significantly, helping India become the world's largest milk producer. 1950 – ""Peanuts"" comic strip debuted. Charles Schulz's iconic comic introducing Charlie Brown and Snoopy was first published, becoming one of the most influential creations in popular culture.
