What Happened
1977: Indira Gandhi arrested on corruption charges. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was arrested in New Delhi by the Janata Party government, a dramatic development in post-Emergency Indian politics. 1984: India's longest-distance train, the Himsagar Express, connecting Jammu Tawi and Kanyakumari, began service. 1990: Germany reunified. East and West Germany officially reunited, ending four decades of Cold War division. The date is now celebrated as Germany's national day, ""German Unity Day."" 1932: Iraq formally became an independent state and joined the League of Nations. 2020: Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang. Spanning 9.02 km, it became the world’s longest highway single-tube tunnel above 10,000 feet, connecting Manali to the Lahaul-Spiti valley year-round. 1978: Durga (Kanupriya Agarwal), India's first and the world's second test-tube baby, was born in Kolkata through in vitro fertilization (IVF) pioneered by Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay.
