What Happened

1977: Vajpayee Addresses the UN in Hindi: India’s Foreign Minister (and future Prime Minister) Atal Bihari Vajpayee addressed the United Nations General Assembly in Hindi for the first time in history. It was a landmark moment for India's global diplomatic identity. 1957: The Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the world's first artificial satellite, on October 4, 1957. The achievement shocked the United States, triggered the Space Race, and ultimately led to the creation of NASA. 1582: Introduction of the Gregorian Calendar: Pope Gregory XIII officially introduced the Gregorian Calendar. To correct the drifting timeline of the older Julian calendar, the transition required skipping 10 days; thus, the next day in history became October 15, 1582. 1824: Mexico Becomes a Federal Republic: Mexico officially adopted its first constitution, transitioning into a federal republic. 1830: Belgium Declares Independence: The provisional government in Brussels officially declared the independence of Belgium from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
