What Happened

1945: An American B-29 bomber named the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic weapon used in war, dropped the atomic bomb"Little Boy" on Hiroshima, Japan, during World War II. It was the first use of a nuclear weapon in warfare and led to massive destruction and loss of life. 1965 – Voting Rights Act Signed in the U.S. U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, prohibiting racial discrimination in voting and strengthening civil rights protections. 1991: Tim Berners-Lee released files describing his idea for the World Wide Web, making the first publicly available web page live on the internet. 1962 – Jamaica Gains Independence Jamaica became an independent nation after ending British colonial rule 2012 – NASA's Curiosity Rover Lands on Mars NASA successfully landed the Curiosity Rover on Mars, beginning one of the most important planetary exploration missions ever undertaken.
