What Happened
1708: Assassination of Guru Gobind Singh: The tenth and final Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, passed away in Nanded after succumbing to wounds inflicted by assassins. 2023: Hamas Attack on Israel: Hamas militants launched a surprise, large-scale cross-border attack from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, triggering the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. 2001: The United States and allied forces launched Operation Enduring Freedom against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, less than a month after the September 11 attacks. 1949: Creation of East Germany. The German Democratic Republic (East Germany) was formally established during the Cold War, dividing Germany into two states for the next four decades. Cotton Day: 7 October is observed as World Cotton Day, highlighting the importance of cotton to global trade, agriculture, and livelihoods.
