"1664: The Dutch colony of New Netherland (including New Amsterdam) surrendered to English forces, later being renamed New York. 1776: American Revolutionary War patriot Nathan Hale volunteered for an intelligence-gathering mission to spy on British troops. 1941: German and Finnish forces began the brutal, 872-day Siege of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) during World War II. 1944: London was hit by a V-2 ballistic missile for the very first time in history. 2022: Queen Elizabeth II dies, triggering Operation London Bridge and marking the end of the longest reign in British history.
