What Happened
1776: The U.S. Congress officially renamed the country the ""United States of America"". 1850: California became the 31st U.S. state. 1942: A Japanese floatplane dropped incendiary bombs on an Oregon forest during World War II. 1948: The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) was established. 1949: Constituent Assembly adopts Hindi in Devanagari script as the Official Language of India. 1993: Israel-PLO Mutual Recognition. Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization exchanged letters recognizing each other, paving the way for the Oslo Peace Accords.
