1948: India created its Atomic Energy Commission under the leadership of Homi J. Bhabha, laying the foundation for the country's nuclear and atomic energy programme. 1519: Ferdinand Magellan started his famous trip to sail all the way around the world. 1792: Angry crowds took over the Tuileries Palace in Paris during the French Revolution, ending King Louis XVI's rule. 1793: The Louvre Museum officially opened in Paris, letting the public view great art. 1944: American troops won the battle to secure the island of Guam during World War II. 1977: Police in New York City caught the serial killer known as "Son of Sam".
