What Happened

1976: Indian Airlines Boeing 737 hijacked An Indian Airlines flight was hijacked and forced to land in Lahore, Pakistan, becoming one of India's notable aviation security incidents. 1966: Parliament approves Punjab Reorganisation Bill The Indian Parliament approved the bill that ultimately led to the creation of Haryana and the reorganisation of Punjab. 1919: The Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye was signed, officially ending World War I for Austria, ceding territories, and forbidding unification with Germany. 1939: Canada officially declared war on Germany, joining World War II independently for the first time. 1989: The Hungarian government opened its borders with Austria, allowing thousands of East German refugees to escape to West Germany, a key precursor to the fall of the Berlin Wall. 2008: CERN powered up the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland for the first time.
