What Happened

1765 – Treaty of Allahabad Signed The Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II signed the Treaty of Allahabad with the East India Company, marking the beginning of the Company's political control over large parts of India and laying the foundation of British rule. 1948 – India Wins Olympic Hockey Gold India defeated Great Britain 4-0 at the London Olympics to claim its fourth consecutive Olympic hockey gold medal. Legendary Balbir Singh Sr. scored twice. 1949 – Geneva Conventions Adopted Modern Geneva Conventions were adopted, establishing key rules governing humanitarian treatment during war. 1981: The IBM Personal Computer was first released and stocked in stores for consumers. 2000: The Russian nuclear submarine Kursk sank in the Barents Sea after an onboard explosion during military exercises, resulting in the tragic loss of all 118 crew members.
