1810 (Grito de Dolores): Mexican priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang his church bell and gave a call to arms against Spanish rule, igniting the Mexican War of Independence. 1963: The Federation of Malaysia was formed through the merger of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore. 1987: Nations signed the Montreal Protocol to protect the ozone layer from harmful chemical depletion. 1948: Operation Polo Ends, Hyderabad Joins India The Indian Army's "Operation Polo" led to the surrender of the Nizam's forces, resulting in the integration of the princely state of Hyderabad into the Indian Union. This was a major step in India's post-Independence nation-building.
