What Happened

1905: Major Dhyan Chand was born in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh, then part of British India. India celebrates National Sports Day on 29 August to mark his birth anniversary. 1475: The Treaty of Picquigny was signed, formally ending the Hundred Years' War between the kingdoms of England and France. 1526: The Battle of Mohács took place, where the Ottoman Empire led by Suleiman the Magnificent defeated Hungary, resulting in the death of King Louis II and reshaping Central European politics. 1949: The Soviet Union detonated its first atomic bomb (RDS-1) at the Semipalatinsk test site in Kazakhstan, officially ending the American atomic monopoly and escalating the Cold War.
