What Happened

1957 & 1962: Malaysia (then Malaya) and Trinidad and Tobago gained independence from the United Kingdom. 1991 & 1994: Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan declared independence from the Soviet Union, while Russian troops completed their withdrawal from Estonia and Latvia. 1751: British forces under Robert Clive captured Arcot in present-day Tamil Nadu, a key event that strengthened British influence in India during the Carnatic Wars.
