FSSAI Forces Brands to Drop ‘100%’ Claims From Labels

Published: 20 August 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

Food regulator FSSAI has directed companies to stop using potentially misleading“100%” claims on food labels, packaging and advertisements. Following regulatory action, Amway India, Emami, Bonn Biscuits, Apis India, Juza Foods and MasterChow Foods withdrew or modified such claims from their products and promotional material. FSSAI said blanket claims like“100% Honey”,“100% Pure Coconut Oil” or similar marketing statements could mislead consumers. Among the products affected were Emami's Zandu Honey, Amway's coconut oil, Apis honey products, Bonn Biscuits' Jeera Bite biscuits, and several baby-food and noodle products from other firms.

Key Takeaways

The crackdown signals tighter scrutiny of food marketing in India, with regulators pushing brands to ensure product labels and advertisements are accurate, verifiable and not misleading to consumers.
