Indian Express reported that police in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, arrested five members of a counterfeit coin syndicate accused of circulating over ₹70 crore worth of fake ₹20 coins. The gang allegedly produced 10,000-12,000 fake coins daily and distributed them through liquor shops, toll plazas and grocery stores across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Bihar. Police seized 6,400 counterfeit coins, coin-making machines and other manufacturing equipment.
