Govt Mandates Aadhaar e-KYC for Subsidised Cooking Gas Bookings

Published: 19 September 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has made Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) mandatory for domestic LPG consumers seeking subsidised cylinder refills from October 1, 2026. Consumers who have not completed the authentication process will not be able to book LPG refills at the subsidised rate until verification is completed. As of September 19, 27.43 crore consumers (89.9% of active LPG users) had already completed the process.

Key Takeaways

The government says the move is aimed at preventing diversion of subsidised cylinders, eliminating duplicate connections, and ensuring benefits reach eligible households. Consumers can complete authentication during cylinder delivery, at distributor showrooms, or through LPG company apps such as IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL, and HP PAY. Those who do not authenticate can still purchase LPG but will have to pay the market price without subsidy.
