India Slams UN Rapporteur Over ‘India-Based’ D-Company Remark
What Happened
India has strongly objected to a report by UN Special Rapporteur Ben Saul that described Dawood Ibrahim as the leader of the “India-based” D-Company. Indian diplomat Raghoo Puri called the description inaccurate and said D-Company and Dawood Ibrahim have been wanted in India in connection with terror attacks since 1993. Raghoo Puri also said that, according to the UN’s own listing entry, Dawood Ibrahim resides in the same country where Osama bin Laden was found, referring to Pakistan.
Key Takeaways
India says describing D-Company as “India-based” leaves out crucial context that Dawood Ibrahim is wanted in India and, according to India’s interpretation of the UN listing, resides in Pakistan.
