What Happened

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Swiss President Guy Parmelin in New Delhi for bilateral talks during Parmelin’s three-day state visit. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, mobility, infrastructure, defence, nuclear energy, and critical technologies. Modi emphasized that the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which came into effect in October 2025, provides a framework to attract $100 billion in investment and create 1 million jobs over 15 years. Agreements were signed to strengthen collaboration in transport, mobility, and infrastructure, while new joint research projects in health, clean energy, and space are planned. Modi also invited Swiss companies to invest in Indian infrastructure projects such as the Varanasi ropeway and Jewar Airport. Parmelin described the visit as a “stepping stone” to deepen the long-standing partnership.

Key Takeaways

The talks reaffirm India–Switzerland ties, with TEPA serving as a cornerstone for large-scale investment and job creation. By expanding cooperation in science, defence, and nuclear energy, both nations aim to build trusted supply chains and advanced technology partnerships.
