What Happened

IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) announced that the airline will progressively move 12 daily international departures from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) starting in February 2027. The shift will cover existing services to destinations including Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta, while a new daily Kathmandu flight will also be added. Final schedules remain subject to operational coordination and regulatory approvals.

Key Takeaways

The move is part of a phased transition aimed at developing NMIA as a second aviation hub for the Mumbai region while easing pressure on capacity-constrained CSMIA. The shift is also expected to support the planned redevelopment of CSMIA’s Terminal 1 and create room for additional international services from Mumbai.
