What Happened

Reliance Jio Platforms Ltd, India’s largest telecom operator, is scaling beyond mobile services into home broadband, entertainment, devices, and enterprise solutions. As of July 2026, Jio had 506 million mobile subscribers (39.3% market share) and 535 million broadband users, leading both segments. It captured 67.6% of net fixed-broadband additions in FY26, with 27.1 million fixed broadband customers. Jio is pursuing both fiber-to-the-home and fixed wireless access (FWA), unlike Airtel which is focusing mainly on fiber. Beyond terrestrial networks, Jio is evaluating a low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite constellation and partnerships with global satellite providers to extend rural connectivity. Its JioBharat devices and JioOS ecosystem target entry-level consumers, locking them into Jio’s proprietary payments, media, and cloud services. In entertainment, Jio has partnered with 15+ OTT platforms, while analysts project India’s digital entertainment market to grow from ₹51,700 crore in FY26 to ₹89,000 crore by FY31. On the enterprise side, Jio is building AI-driven cloud and network automation solutions, positioning itself as a full-stack technology provider.

Key Takeaways

Jio’s strategy is to control multiple layers between connectivity and consumers, from devices and operating systems to entertainment and enterprise services. By combining fiber, AirFiber, satellite, and AI, Jio aims to deliver a seamless ecosystem, ensuring long-term monetization beyond telecom.
