Navratri auto boom: India sells 10.32 lakh vehicles in just 9 days
What Happened
India recorded 10.32 lakh vehicle retail sales during the nine-day Navratri period, up 1.95% from 10.12 lakh units in the corresponding period last year, according to FADA data. That works out to more than one vehicle every second. Two-wheelers drove the growth, with sales rising 5.78% to 7.60 lakh units. In contrast, passenger vehicle sales fell 13.66% to 1.72 lakh units, partly reflecting the high base created by last year’s GST-led festive buying. Commercial vehicle sales increased 14.21% to 34,120 units.
Key Takeaways
Despite a high comparison base, India’s festive auto demand remained resilient, with two-wheelers powering overall sales past the 10-lakh mark even as car and SUV sales declined.
