NEET-PG, NEET-SS Could Move To Rank-Based Merit From 2027

Published: 3 November 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

A 12-member expert committee appointed to review the NEET-PG admission system has proposed replacing the existing percentile-based qualifying system with a rank-based merit system for NEET-PG and NEET-SS. The National Medical Commission has given in-principle approval, and draft regulations are expected to be released for stakeholder consultation. The committee also recommended measures to reduce vacant PG medical seats, including lower fees for non-clinical courses and exemptions from service bonds for certain pre-clinical and para-clinical seats.

Key Takeaways

The change is not final yet. The Supreme Court has taken the expert report on record and sought responses, while regulations implementing the proposed rank-based system are still to be framed.
