Published: 3 October 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

A National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal PhD scholar, Kaira Anupama, has developed a low-power Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) designed to improve energy efficiency in smartwatches, IoT devices and other battery-powered gadgets. The chip helps manage power consumption while operating with very low energy requirements. Developed over nearly three years as part of her research in semiconductor and VLSI design, the chip combines a low drop-out regulator and a temperature sensor to reduce energy wastage and enhance performance in compact electronic devices.

Key Takeaways

The innovation could help extend battery life in wearables, healthcare devices and IoT products while supporting India's efforts to build indigenous semiconductor technology under the government's Chips to Startup (C2S) initiative.
