Security First: MHA Draws a 1-km No-Go Line for Renewable Energy

What Happened

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued new security guidelines prohibiting any new solar, wind, or hybrid renewable energy projects within 1 km of India's international borders, the Line of Control (LoC), and the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Areas within 50 km of border regions have been classified as "sensitive areas," requiring MHA security clearance for renewable energy projects. Projects within 20 km of the International Border will additionally require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Defence. Hiring personnel from land-border countries, particularly Pakistan, Bangladesh, and China, will require prior approval from the central government.
