What Happened

NHAI is upgrading its 1033 National Highway helpline with Artificial Intelligence (AI), real-time location tracking and smart dispatch systems. The enhanced platform will automatically identify a caller's location, understand multiple Indian languages and quickly send the most suitable ambulance, crane or patrol vehicle. The 24x7 helpline currently covers over 1.46 lakh km of national highways and handles about 15,000 calls daily.

Key Takeaways

The upgrade aims to reduce response times during vehicle breakdowns and accidents, improving safety for highway users. By combining AI with human operators, NHAI hopes to make emergency assistance faster, more accurate and better coordinated across India's highway network.
