TDB Signs ₹200 Cr Pact With Agnikul Cosmos for Reusable Agnibaan
What Happened
The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) signed a ₹200 crore agreement with Agnikul Cosmos Pvt Ltd to support the development of the Agnibaan Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV). The funding, provided through Optionally Convertible Debentures (OCDs) under the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund, will help advance the technology from TRL-4 to TRL-8. Unlike conventional systems that recover only the first stage, Agnikul’s design aims for full-system reusability, enabling frequent, low-cost launches while reducing manufacturing costs and space debris. The Agnibaan RLV will feature a semi-cryogenic propulsion system with deep throttling and restart capabilities, a reusable upper stage, and controlled descent technologies. Agnikul has previously demonstrated its Agnibaan orbital-class launch vehicle and Agnilet, a 3D-printed rocket engine.
