Telangana Launches TG SAFE to Oversee Food & Drug Safety
What Happened
The Telangana government issued an order merging the Food Safety Department and the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) under TG SAFE. The new body will function through six wings: Drug Administration, Food Safety, Enforcement, Legal & Prosecution, Laboratory, and Administration. Senior IPS officer Avinash Mohanty has been appointed as Commissioner of TG SAFE, in addition to his role as Director General of DCA. The move is designed to improve licensing, inspections, testing, enforcement, and intelligence gathering.
