The Divine Parijata Tree: Krishna's Heavenly Gift

Published: 8 October 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

When the gods and demons churned the cosmic ocean in search of Amrita, many divine treasures emerged. One of them was the magnificent Parijata tree, whose fragrant flowers never wilted and whose beauty was unmatched. The tree was taken to Indra's heaven and planted in the celestial garden of Nandanavana. Years later, Lord Krishna visited heaven with his wife Satyabhama. Captivated by the Parijata's beauty, Satyabhama wished to have the tree on Earth. Indra initially refused, arguing that the tree belonged to heaven alone. A dispute followed, and Krishna eventually uprooted the Parijata tree and brought it to Dwarka. According to legend, he planted it in Satyabhama's garden. However, in a divine twist, although its trunk stood in Satyabhama's courtyard, the branches bent gracefully toward the palace of Rukmini, Krishna's other queen. Every morning, its fragrant flowers fell into Rukmini's garden. Satyabhama was stunned. Why would the tree ignore its owner? Krishna explained that divine blessings are not won through possession, power, or pride. They naturally flow toward those whose hearts are filled with humility and devotion.

Key Takeaways

The story of the Parijata tree reminds us that the most beautiful gifts in life cannot be possessed by force or pride. Like the heavenly flowers that chose Rukmini's garden, divine grace always finds the humble heart. You can own something precious, but you cannot command its grace. True blessings bloom where there is devotion, not ego.
