Published: 3 September 2026 · 1 min read

What Happened

WhatsApp has rolled out a new Bill Payments feature in India, enabling users to pay electricity, water, gas, FASTag, insurance, credit card and loan bills directly from the app. Powered by the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network, the service supports 22,722 billers across 30 categories and is being phased out to Android and iOS users nationwide.

Key Takeaways

The launch expands WhatsApp’s role beyond messaging and UPI payments, positioning it as a one-stop platform for everyday financial tasks. The move also increases competition with digital payment players such as PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm.
