Your Speed on Delhi-Meerut Expressway Will Soon Depend on the Clock

Starting August 15, an 8.7-km stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway between Sarai Kale Khan and the UP border will become India's first expressway section to use Variable Speed Limits (VSL). Electronic signboards linked to sensors and cameras will display speed limits that change based on traffic conditions and time of day. Speed cameras will automatically detect violations and trigger challans. Cars will be allowed up to 65 kmph between midnight and 7 AM, 55 kmph between 7 AM and 5 PM, and 60 kmph between 5 PM and midnight. Heavy vehicles will have limits of 50 kmph, 45 kmph, and 40 kmph respectively.
